Are you making these two common skincare mistakes?

Caring for our skin is crucial in today’s world, given the impact of pollution, stress, and irregular eating habits. Despite the growing emphasis on skincare, many individuals still make common mistakes that hinder them from fully reaping the benefits of their dedicated routines.

Dermatologist Dr. Gurveen Waraich recently shared two such prevalent skincare errors on Instagram, noting that even dermatologists can fall victim to them.

Neglecting the Neck in Skincare Application
While we diligently attend to our facial skincare, the neck is often overlooked, becoming the first area to display signs of aging. Dr. Waraich emphasizes the increased vulnerability of the neck to premature aging, especially with the added strain from constant device use. Advising skincare extension to the neck, she recommends incorporating hydrating ingredients with sunscreen. Given the delicate nature of the neck, she cautions against using high-strength retinol, AHAs, and BHAs in this area. Dr. Naren Prakash, a Consultant Dermatologist at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital in Gurugram, adds that skincare products should be gently applied to the neck, ensuring coverage of the front, side, and back areas, including behind the ears.

Incomplete Sunscreen Application
A common oversight is limiting sunscreen application to the face alone. Dr. Waraich stresses the importance of applying sunscreen to all exposed parts, including the arms, neck, and upper back. She suggests that spray sunscreens, being convenient and easy to spread, are effective for the body.

Additional Skincare Mistakes to Avoid:
– Rubbing and pulling the skin while applying skincare products
– Exfoliating too frequently
– Ignoring signs of dehydration
– Irregular cleaning of makeup brushes
– Applying skincare products in the wrong order
– Neglecting makeup removal before bedtime
– Inadequate use of sunscreen
– Choosing the wrong beauty products for one’s skin type

Being mindful of these common mistakes can significantly enhance the effectiveness of one’s skincare routine.
